Liliya Sattarova

Vostok/Oriens '2017, №1

This article is the first publication of the minbar from the Great Mosque of Siirt – the city in the South-Eastern part of modern Turkey. The wooden pulpit exposing now at the Ankara Ethnography Museum, is an outstanding piece of Islamic Art and one of the few Anatolian monuments remaining from the twelfth – the beginning of the thirteenth century. This medieval minbar is a valuable source of information about ornamental vocabulary, composition and techniques of Seljuk architectural carving.
