The article deals with one of the historical sources “Mission to Turkestan, Being the Memoirs of Count K.K. Pahlen, 1908–1909” reflecting the history of colonial Turkestan at the beginning of the twentieth century. The memoirs were composed by the Imperial Senator, Steward of the Household, and investigator Count Konstantin K. Pahlen. After the establishment of the Soviet government in Russia, Pahlen emigrated to Germany. In 1922, during his short visit to his relatives in Finland (it was not long before his death in 1924), he dictated by memory his recollections and impressions of the journey to Turkestan in 1908–1909 in German language. Consequently, after 40 years, the memoirs were translated into English by N. Couriss and in 1964 were published in London. The introduction to the memoirs was written by Richard A. Pierce, the professor of Queen’s University in Ontario. Pahlen’s memoirs significantly enrich the facts and events written in his official reports on the investigation of the Turkestan Governor Generalship.
