The article analyzes the influence of the concept of negritude on the African literature in French and Spanish at the different stages of its development. The study focuses on the premises of its inception as well as its transcontinental and transcultural nature on the background of mutual influence of the European and African civilizations. The article also deals with the main postulates of the negritude and their evolution as well as its key role in the formation, development and contemporary state of the Romance language literature of sub-Saharan Africa. A special emphasis is made on the choice of genres at the various stages of development of this concept. A comparative analysis focuses on the attitude to the negritude by the writers from various regions of Africa and its interpretation by African philosophers, politicians and linguists. The article also touches upon the use of the negritude by ideologists of Africanization campaigns, widespread after the Independence, and by the radical concepts of Africanism. The article also focuses on linguistic and stylistic means of verbalization of the key ideas of the negritude revealed in literary works in French and Spanish by the most well-known African writers such as L.S. Senghor, Ou. Sembène, A.H. Bâ, H. Lopes, A. Mabanckou, D. Ndongo-Bidyogo, and C. Mba Abogo.
