The article is devoted to so called “frame texts” in Persian Classic poetry of the tenth to XV centuries. Frame texts include name or pen name of the author, title, subtitle, epigraph, author’s preface, comments, afterword, inner titles, mentioning of date and place of work’s creation. As integral system, frame texts in Medieval Persian literature have never been thoroughly studied. Their elements played an important role in the structure and content of all genres of Persian poetry. The texts under examination in this article show some specific functions of “frame’ in Medieval poetic works created on the basis of normative poetics. These texts demonstrate standard types of “frame” in Persian poetic works of different genres and forms.
