While still in the middle twentieth century, as many centuries and millennia ago, the only life choice for women was a marriage, there are profound sociodemographic changes in family and marital relations in North Africa in the last thirty years. The age of marriage increased significantly both in urban and in rural areas, which in turn affects the fertility rates. The behavioral norms, traditions, stereotypes and practices, specific to the institute of “Arab marriage” are transformed.
