Among the multinational populations of the Sakhalin region a special place belongs to the Koreans. At present by its size it is the second (after the Russians) demographic group of the population in the region. Language plays a very important role in the self-identification of a people. The attitude to language - one's native or foreign - is always like a sensor that keenly reacts to social and social-psychological processes in society. The authors of the article traces the history of teaching the Korean language to the Korean population of Sakhalin since the time of the Korean habitation territory's going out from under the Japanese control, that is during the second half of the XX century and till our days.
