Миссия Российского Общества Красного Креста (РОКК) в Абиссинии 1896-1897 гг. стала знаковым событием в истории русско-эфиопских политических и культурных связей, наглядно продемонстрировавшим дружественное отношение российской общественности к этой восточноафриканской стране. Оказанная русскими врачами бескорыстная помощь абиссинскому народу стала залогом дальнейшего сближения двух стран, способствовала развитию дипломатических контактов. Вместе с тем миссия РОКК укрепила положительный образ России в Эфиопии, усилила ее влияние в регионе в целом. Поэтому, несмотря на имеющиеся в отечественной историографии немногочисленные исследования, вопросы, связанные с организацией миссии Красного Креста, и отношение российской общественности к этой проблеме по-прежнему требуют отдельного рассмотрения.

The mission of the Russian Red Cross Society in Abyssinia in 1896-1897 had become a significant event in the history of Russian-Ethiopian political and cultural ties clearly showing a friendly attitude of the Russian public to this East African country. The disinterested aid provided by the Russian doctors to the Abyssinian people became a pledge of the further rapprochement of the two countries, contributed to the development of diplomatic contacts. At the same time the mission of the Russian Red Cross had strengthened Russia's positive image in Ethiopia and its influence in the region on the whole. That is why, in spite of some studies of these problems in this country's historiography, the questions connected with the organization of the Red Cross mission and the Russian public's attitude to this problem still require special research.
