<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The final section of the article examines issues related to the depicted subjects, their iconography, inscriptions, and the place and time of the vessels&amp;apos; manufacturing. The sculpted frieze of the Sphairos kantharos depicts a single scene – the conflict between Herakles and King Neleus of Pylos and his sons. The Epicrates kantharos depicts two scenes: the attack on Herakles by the sons of the god Boreas and the moment when Herakles, in place of Atlas, shouldered the weight of the heavenly vault. It is important to note that only the latter scene illustrates Herakles&amp;apos;s twelfth labor; the others are devoted to essentially marginal themes in the pictorial tradition associated with Herakles. This circumstance alone suggests the well-founded hypothesis that the two kantharos discovered on the banks of the Volga were merely a small part of a larger service illustrated with scenes from the life of Herakles, from the hero&amp;apos;s birth to his apotheosis. Analysis of the paleography of the inscription (the combination of monumental, lunate, and square sigma forms) and linguistic features (the transition from η to ει in the name of Neleus) demonstrates that the kantharos, along with the rest of the service, were most likely made in the late 3rd to early 2nd century BC for the needs of the royal court in Greco-Bactria. The vessels were later donated to the leaders of the nomads who lived on the northern borders of Bactria, and were eventually buried with their last owner on the banks of the Volga.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Геракл</kwd><kwd>Сфер</kwd><kwd>Эпикрат</kwd><kwd>канфары</kwd><kwd>торевтика</kwd><kwd>греческая мифология</kwd><kwd>эпиграфика</kwd><kwd>Греко-Бактрия</kwd><kwd>Евтидем I</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Herakles</kwd><kwd>Sphairos</kwd><kwd>Epicrates</kwd><kwd>kantharos</kwd><kwd>toreutics</kwd><kwd>Greek mythology</kwd><kwd>epigraphy</kwd><kwd>Greco-Bactrian</kwd><kwd>Euthydemus I</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front></article>
