<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The Soviet Union sponsored the Communist Party of India (CPI) since its foundation in 1925 till the beginning of 1990. During the colonial period, the supervisor for the Indian communists used to be the Communist Party of Great Britain, and since the Independence was proclaimed in 1947, the CPI was directly sponsored by the International Department of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Central Committee.  Thus, since August, 1975 till February, 1977 8,264,244 rupees were sent to the recipient. The funds were received as required, in cash, local currency. The staff member of the First Main Directorate of the KGB was in charge of the transfer of money. The operation had been meticulously planned and took place not far from New Delhi. When receiving the money, the liaison delivered it to the CPI General Secretary.  The latter gave a receipt noting the sum, the receipt was subsequently sent to the Soviet Embassy. The financial support to the CPI came from a variety of sources, like the Novosti Press Agency, the World Peace Council, etc. Since 1956 the Communist Party of China also sponsored the Indian left Communists. The collapse of the USSR and the termination of the Soviet financial support led to the weakening of the CPI’s positions in India. At the regional level the CPI stays in power in Kerala only, where it is part of the coalition government of the Left Democratic Front. The author introduces documents from the AVPRF and RGASPI’s repositories for the first time.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Советский Союз</kwd><kwd>Коммунистическая партия Индии</kwd><kwd>Коммунистическая партия Индии (марксистская)</kwd><kwd>Данге</kwd><kwd>Рао</kwd><kwd>Сундарайя</kwd><kwd>наксалиты</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Soviet Union</kwd><kwd>Communist Party of India</kwd><kwd>Communist Party of India (Marxist)</kwd><kwd>Dange</kwd><kwd>Rao</kwd><kwd>Sundarayya</kwd><kwd>Naxalites</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front></article>
