<trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
<i>The compilation of the “Brief Description of Annam” (“Annam chi luoc”) was completed in China approximately in the 1340s, and this work, which contains unique information on Vietnam and Vietnamese-Chinese relations, immediately became one of the widely recognized texts included in the list of the main historical and literary works both of the Yuan dynasty (1279–1368), and of all subsequent Chinese dynasties – the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911). Meanwhile, in Vietnam itself, this work was ignored for a long time, since its author, a Vietnamese Le Taс, at one time defected to the Mongol invaders and wrote this work primarily to justify the legitimacy of his betrayal and to question the correctness of the actions of the rulers of the Tran dynasty (1225–1400). This article is devoted to the ambiguous and contradictory figure of Le Taс and the importance of the unique information contained in the “Brief Description of Annam” for studying the history of Vietnam. It provides biographical information about the author of this source, history of its writing, promotion, and transformation into a part of canonical Chinese literature, fate of the work after its creator’s death, emergence of its numerous handwritten, xylographic, and printed versions in various countries, and attitude towards it and its author in Vietnam. The article also discusses the sources used in the writing of this work and concludes that it is undoubtedly one of the most ancient authentic sources written by a Vietnamese author.</i>
</trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>историография Вьетнама</kwd><kwd>Ле Так</kwd><kwd>«Краткое описание Аннама»</kwd><kwd>«Аннам тьи лыок»</kwd><kwd>вьетнамо-китайские отношения</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>historiography of Vietnam</kwd><kwd>Le Tac</kwd><kwd>“Brief Description of Annam”</kwd><kwd>“Annam chi luoc”</kwd><kwd>Vietnam-China relations</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front>
