During the last decades we have become witnesses to the "revival" of the idea of civil society, its manifestations in the countries and religions which earlier were outside of the sphere of progressive political and economic ideological processes. Turkey's experience, that of the "most westernized state of the Near East", allows to track the devel- opment and functioning of a "non-European model" of civil society, to determine the main tendencies and determinants of its development.
