<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The Buddhist Kalachakra teaching (the Sanskrit &amp;quot;Time Circle&amp;quot;) was formed in India first half of the XI century, and it is the latest of the Buddhist tantras. The term tantra (Sanskrit &amp;quot;a loom&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;the base (of cloth)&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;the essential part&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;a model&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;a system&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;a doctrine&amp;quot;) is the name for a group of religious systems (they appear in Buddhism and Hinduism in the second half of the 1 - the beginning of 2 millennium of A.D.) and at the same time it is used to name a group of the basic texts of these systems. In the XI century the Kalachakra teaching spreaded in Tibet. With the adaptation of Buddhism by Mongolian peoples it appeared on their territories too. Together with this teaching the system of chronology (six-day cycles) accepted in tantra Kalachakra as well as the eschatological ideas of this tantra had spread in these regions. In Buddhist Central Asia Kalachakra still remains a living teaching. On Russia&amp;apos;s territory it traditionally is represented in Byryatia and Kalmykia. The mythical history of the Kalachakra teaching and its eschatological ideas are registered in the Buddhist legend about the holy country of Shambala. This legend had gone a long path of development and is reflected in written monuments of the East: in the Indian (XI cent.), Tibetan (Xl-XXcents) and Mongolian (XVI//-XX cents) Buddhist works; they still occupy an important place in the culture of Buddhist Central Asia. In this work the Buddhist legend about Shambala is analyzed as the source of the mythical history and eschatology of the Kalachakra tantra.</p></trans-abstract></article-meta></front></article>
