<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>&amp;quot; The distinguishing signs&amp;quot; in the Jews&amp;apos; clothes related to their form, colour or additional details have existed in all the countries where the Jews lived. In Middle Asia the the &amp;quot;distinguishing signs&amp;quot; of people of different religion were to be a head-dress, an overcoat and a belt, this clothing distinguishing the Jews from the Moslem population. After a detailed study of these kinds of the Bukhara Jews&amp;apos; clothes the author has drawn a conclusion that the sources and stability of the &amp;quot;distinguishing signs&amp;quot; in these clothes should be sought in the Jews&amp;apos; historical and cultural own experience of interaction with the surrounding peoples. On one hand, the clothes performed differentiating functions typical of all the peoples of a region, and therefore neither the Jews, nor the Moslems thought therm to be humiliating. On the other hand, &amp;quot;the distinguishing signs&amp;quot; were one of the ways of distancing by the Bukhara Jews themselves from the other religions communities and corresponded to the norms of Jewish tradition.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>бухарские евреи</kwd><kwd>одежда бухарских евреев</kwd><kwd>история еврейского костюма</kwd><kwd>положение евреев</kwd><kwd>зимми</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front></article>
