<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>This is the first part of the study of the last Sasanids&amp;apos; rule, dealing with the dethronement of Khusro II Abarwez (591-628) on 24 February, 628. The coup d&amp;apos;etat was largely due to failures in the war against Byzantium. A Sasanid king could severely punish a general who suffered a defeat. Khusro, not long before his dethronement, showed that he intended to do that. Furthermore, many members of aristocratic families were imprisoned and Khusro ordered to execute the detainees. A number of aristocrats formed, or joined, the plot out of fear for themselves or their relatives, whereas others wanted to revenge insults inflicted on them by Khusro. As for prince Kawad (Sheroy), who allegedly initiated the conspiracy and then became king with the plotters&amp;apos; help, he was not a legitimate heir to the throne. He was neither Khusro&amp;apos;s eldest son, nor the heir designated by the king. Yet he was the first-born son of Mary, a Byzantine aristocratic woman, whom Khusro had received as a bride from Emperor Maurice (582-602) and made his senior wife out of respect for the latter. Sheroy believed that he had rights to the throne as the first-born son of the king&amp;apos;s first senior wife, to the exclusion of other heirs. The alliance of Sheroy and the plotters was formed from both sides as he needed them as a force to help him ascend on the throne, whereas they needed him as a legitimate ruler who would provide legal grounds to their acts.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Сасаниды</kwd><kwd>Хосров II Парвиз</kwd><kwd>Кавад Широй</kwd><kwd>Мария</kwd><kwd>Ширин</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Sasanids</kwd><kwd>Khusro II Abarwez</kwd><kwd>Kawad Sheroy</kwd><kwd>Mary</kwd><kwd>Shirin</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front></article>
