<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Badr Shirvani entered the history of medieval Azerbaijani literature as a poet-panegyrist. However, panegyric, being the leading trend in Badr’s work, does not mean that the poet was focused exclusively on writing praise poems and did not pay attention to other topics. Even in the purely panegyric genre, which was the qasida, he raised many issues affecting both the interests of the court, representatives of the nobility, and urban strata, expressing his own hopes and expectations. In the poet’s Divan there are also poems that represent the opposite of panegyric and are distinguished by their satirical overtones. These are so-called hajv or hija, united by Badr in the section titled ‘habsiyyat’ (vicious or evil). Poems under the general title hazliyyat (jokes or witticisms) also intersect with them. In terms of volume, both sections are not very large and include about 320 and 106 distiches, respectively. However clearly, it is not the quantitative indicators that are important, but the content and purpose of the verses. Satirical poetry turned into a kind of weapon, which the author used not only for the defense of his own honor and dignity, but also tried to punish some officials, ridicule the negative qualities of a patron or express criticism on surrounding events. Satirical poems of Badr were created throughout his entire creative career. They were written in different years and under different circumstances, but they were united by one and only goal – responding to the influence of factors unfriendly to the poet.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Азербайджан</kwd><kwd>средневековая персоязычная литература</kwd><kwd>Бадр Ширвани</kwd><kwd>жанр</kwd><kwd>хаджв</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Azerbaijan</kwd><kwd>medieval Persian-language literature</kwd><kwd>Badr Shirvani</kwd><kwd>Genre</kwd><kwd>Hajv</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front></article>
