Inter-Elite Conflict in Iran (from 1989 to 2010)

Vostok/Oriens '2013, №1

The main purpose of this paper is an application of the methodology of political science to the contemporary Iranian political reality. Investigation of conflict between groups of power in Iran from 1989 to 2010 has required the development of criteria of the elite conflicts intensity in Iran and their correlation with quantitative estimates on a five-point scale. There are four groups of actors in the Iranian political arena whose interactions are examined. These coalitions consist of political leaders, groups and parties and can be generally described by the terms “right coalition”, “left coalition”, “centre” and “the leader of the country”. The degree of conflict between groups of power in Iran in that period seemingly has not reached a level of average intensity of crisis stage.
