Towards the History of Exploration of Eastern Turkestan. A Letter of M.M. Berezowsky to D.A. Klementz from the Collection of the St.Petersburg Branch of the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The article presents the publication of the letter of the Russian archaeologist Mikhail M. Berezowsky to his colleague Dmitri A. Klements – the only one of this kind, kept in the collection of the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St.Petersburg branch), in which the techniques of the decoration of the Buddhist cave temples in the Kucha oasis is reconstructed. Berezowsky also gives his opinion on the development of the archaeological exploration of Eastern Turkestan in light of his conflict with the German Imperial Turfan Expedition.
