Contemporary Development of Higher Education in India Based on “Kerala Model” Example

In this article the author is challenged by the task of uncovering the special features of Kerala state development, which directly influence the current formation of its tertiary system. Kerala might set an example for other Indian states, in terms of successful and timely education policy. For example, at present the state takes the first place for human development in India, and the literacy rate is the highest in the country. Besides the advantages the author also investigates the weaknesses, which can be attributed to Kerala higher education system. The obtained results are present as SWOT-analysis, which allows taking a complex approach to the tertiary education in Kerala.
