George Roerich about the Role of Buddhism in cultural unity of Asia

Vostok/Oriens '2014, №6

Asia of the first millennium C.E. may be considered, despite its unique diversity of peoples, languages and religions, as an integral and continuous unity in space and time, infused by common cultural elements. This fact was first noted by a Russian Orientalist, G.N. Roerich (1902–1960). Roerich emphasized importance of the cultural development and believed that Buddha’s Teaching contributed much to the cultural unity of Asia. Its broadest philosophical attitude and humanism allowed Buddhism to spread quickly throughout Asia.
