New Life of the Old Novel: “Continuing Dream of the Red Chamber”

Since the times when the classic novel “Dream of the Red Chamber” emerged, many people in China repeatedly made attempts to interpret the contents, to continue the story and to recover the chapters that had been lost. The novel “Continuing Dream of the Red Chamber” is one of the milestones of contemporary Chinese writer Liu Xinwu. This book is also an attempt to complete the novel. After having studied for many years the novel “Dream of the Red Chamber” and numerous manuscripts, Liu Xinwu wrote 28 chapters, with which he completed the novel, starting with chapter 81. The paper examines the structural and linguistic connections of Liu Xinwu’s 28 chapters and the original text of “Dream of the Red Chamber”.
