Lebanon in the Early 1950s As Viewed by the Russian Anticommunist Emigrants

Several members of a leading Russian anti-Soviet organization abroad, namely of the People’s Labor Union, lived in Beirut and Tripoli (Lebanon) in the early 1950s. They considered their main task the struggle against the Soviet communist ideology and against sympathy for socialist ideas that were gaining strength not only in Lebanon, but also throughout the Middle East. Such a standpoint, a look from that unexpected side which is reflected in letters of residents of the Union to their leader in Germany, adds new details to the picture of the historical events in Lebanon at the end of the presidency of Bishara al-Khoury and at the beginning of of the presidency of Camille Chamoun.
