Decolonization of the Afro-Asian World: Prerequisites, Stages and Models

The article deals with the complex of prerequisites for the disintegration of the colonial system in Asia and Africa from mid-1940s to mid-1970s. A concise historiographical overview of the problem is presented. The author distinguishes stages of the decolonization process, its main models and schemes of its implementation in different colonial empires. In the conclusion he touches upon the problem of the predictability of decolonization.
