Forms of organizations characteristic of Jewish communities displayed considerable variations depending on place and time. The Jewish community of Venice in the seventeenth century consisted of several fraternities that carried names of religious organizations. These names, however, in their actual functioning were distinctly focused predominantly on social-economic issues. One of these fraternities was called Hevrat shomrim la-boker. Its primary characteristics are examined in the article on the basis of its minute book.
